I grew up with the Star Wars movies. In more recent years I've become very interested in the art of making movies, and also fallen back in love with the original three Star Wars movies. Although it would generally take more than one movie to make me consider a director among my favorite directors, Irvin Kershner only needed to direct one: Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back. It will always be one of my favorite movies, and Kershner was one of the best things to ever happen to Star Wars. I am interested in making movies at some point in my life, and I always take mental notes about who I'd love to work with some day. It may be a pretty selfish thought, but much like when Stan Winston died, I am saddened that I'll never get a chance to work with him.
